Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about my practice, fees, and what to expect.

Are you a registered therapist?

Yes, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #23840) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). While my services are covered by most extended health insurance plans, please check with your specific provider to confirm your coverage.

What's your background?

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent twenty years in the high-pressure film industry. This experience gives me a deep, firsthand understanding of chronic stress, long hours, burnout, people-pleasing, and their impact on wellbeing, identity, and recovery.

What type of therapy do you provide?

My therapeutic approach is integrative, informed by Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), CBT, ACT, DBT, and somatic methods, and focused through the lens of Compassionate Inquiry. In our sessions, we'll create a safe, non-judgmental space to look beyond surface symptoms and gently uncover the root causes of your challenges. As a Trainee in the year-long Compassionate Inquiry® Professional Training, a trauma-informed approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté, I bring deep curiosity and care to help you release what holds you back and cultivate a more grounded, authentic relationship with yourself.

How do I book an appointment?

To get started, you can fill out the consultation form on my home page, or send me an email directly at hello@jamesbrauntherapy.com to request a free 15-minute consultation. We'll find a time that works best to connect and see how we can work together.

Do you offer direct billing?

I do not offer direct billing at this time. You will be provided with a receipt after each session which includes my RCC number, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What are your fees?

My standard rate is $150 for a 50-minute session (GST exempt). New clients are required to book a free initial 15-minute video consultation first to ensure we are a good fit.

Is therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What we discuss remains private, with a few legal exceptions: imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, a minor at risk, or if I am subpoenaed by a court. We will discuss these limits in detail during our first session.
