Frequently asked questions

How do sessions work?

Sessions are 50 minutes long and happen online through the Jane app. We meet as often as works for you, usually weekly to start.

Are you taking new clients?

Yes. Book a free 15-minute call to see if we're a good fit.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you're working through. Some people come for a few months focused on a specific situation. Others stay longer for deeper or ongoing work. We can check in about pace anytime.

Can I do this from anywhere in BC?

Yes, as long as you're physically in British Columbia during sessions. Because RCC licensing is provincial, I can only work with you when you’re in BC.

Do you work with couples?

Not at this time. I work with individuals only.

What if I've never done therapy before?

You don’t need to prepare anything or know what to say. The first session is mostly about getting a feel for each other. If it feels right, we keep going. If not, I’m happy to help you find someone who might be a better match.

What about insurance?

Most BC extended health plans that cover Registered Clinical Counsellors will reimburse my sessions. You pay at the time of appointment, Jane emails you a receipt, and you submit it yourself. Check with your provider to be sure.

Do you offer sliding scale?

I have a limited number of reduced-fee spots. Reach out if cost is a barrier and we can talk about it.

Are you affirming for queer clients?

Yes. I'm a queer counsellor and I work with a lot of 2SLGBTQIA+ clients, so I understand the nuances of queerness from my own lived experience.

What stays confidential?

Almost everything we talk about stays between us. The few standard exceptions, required for any RCC in BC, mostly relate to immediate safety. If I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm, or if I have reason to believe a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected, I'm required to act. A court can also subpoena records. Outside of those situations, what you share stays private. If something comes up that might require breaking confidentiality, I'll do my best to talk with you first.

What if I'm in crisis?

If you’re in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, please reach out right away to 988 (Canada’s Suicide Crisis Helpline) or go to your nearest emergency room. I’m not available for crisis support between sessions. You’ll find more resources listed on the site.
